Anthony Van Schaick, who built the mansion between 1735-1755, made a reservation in his will for a cemetery on his property.  At least 50 Van Schaicks and their relatives are buried in the cemetery a short distance north of the house. Other relatives of the Van Schaick family including General Peter Gansevoort, are buried in the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, NY.

Cemetery before restoration

In 2010 the Chapter restored the cemetery in conjunction with an Eagle Scout project.  With the expert guidance of Joe Ferrannini from Gravestone Matters,  and the enthusiastic Schyuler Society members, fallen gravestones were uncovered, pieced together, cemented, cleaned and erected back in the original spots.
